THE MOUNTAINS

The Mountains

  • Imagine Earth's surface like a giant rug. Mountains are dramatic folds, faults, or uplifts caused by the movement of tectonic plates or volcanic activity. Think of them as wrinkles or bumps on the rug, pushing upwards.

  • They can stand alone, but often form ranges or complex ridges, creating awe-inspiring landscapes.

  • Volcanoes: These fire-breathing mountains spew molten rock, ash, and gas due to internal heat. The ejected material builds up, forming new mountains. Active volcanoes rumble and erupt, while dormant or extinct ones have quieted down.
